COVID-19 AND THE YRC: 29 JUNE UPDATE

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Here’s the next coronavirus update: I’m sure you will all have seen/heard the next set of government guidelines about what we are supposed to do/not do after July 4th.

We are still able to meet in groups of up to six to go walking together, provided we stay 2 metres from anyone from another household or “support bubble”.  Members might like to consider organising some local “mini-meets”, where a few of us who are reasonably local to each other could get together for a day out. Please get in touch if you would like to organise one of these.

We are also – from July 4th – allowed to stay away from home, and two households who agree to accept the risks can stay together.

Traditional meets, I’m sorry to say, are still not possible, and will continue to be cancelled on a rolling basis until/unless the guidance changes further. There is a suggestion for a “virtual” long walk meet and more details will be available shortly. In time it should also be possible to look at camping meets with no communal catering.

The Committee has been looking at what will be involved in reopening our huts and we are hoping that we will be able to offer a very limited use to YRC members only from later in July. The BMC has issued new guidance on hut re-opening which will give you a good idea of the considerations involved.

Please enjoy the good weather, but be sensible and stay safe.

Rory Newman

President

The BMC has also updated its current guidance on climbing and hillwalking in England and in Wales.

MS advice on hill-walking, mountaineering and climbing in Scotland is different.
