The YRC Journal has been published since 1899 and over ninety issues have been produced. The YRCJ is a rich source of historical and current information about the club, reporting a host of first ascents, explorations of new caves and details of expeditions, treks, hundreds of club meets, and a diverse selection of members activities all over the world.
Between 1899 and 1992, forty issues of the YRC Journal were published in eleven volumes. The frequency of publishing was variable, with large gaps unsurprisingly caused by the two World Wars. In 1994, the journal changed to an A4 format and was rebranded as The Yorkshire Rambler – the Bulletin of the YRC and published biannually for 24 issues in volume twelve. The publication reverted to its original name of the YRC Journal in 2006 and was also published twice yearly for 23 issues in series thirteen. In 2018, the Journal changed to an all-colour, smaller format beginning with volume fourteen as an annual publication. In addition, between 1988 and 1993 Alpine Meet Reports were published separately to the Journal.
For the purposes of indexing and referencing on this website, the title has been standardised to YRCJ and series replaced with volume to give a unified approach. All journal articles are therefore referenced here as YRCJ Year; volume (number): start page-end page.

Searches
You can use the Search Box in the top right of the page header to look for something you are interested in. This will search the entire YRC website including all articles up to YRCJ 1988; 12(10) but will not search inside later individual PDF files as article web pages do not yet exist.
You can also use Google to search just the YRC website. Click in Google’s search field and type site:https://www.yrc.org.uk/ followed by your search term. You can also do this using Google’s Advanced Search page which has a few more search options available.
Having clicked on a PDF file of a journal to open it in your web browser, you can view the page bookmarks. Alternatively, a single PDF file may be searched for individual words or phrases using the browser’s Ctrl-F / Cmd-F facility.
Searches of multiple PDF cannot currently be done on-line. However you can easily search all the later PDF files from YRCJ 1985; 11(39) onwards by first downloading the multiple PDFs of interest to a single folder on your computer. Open one of these files in Adobe Acrobat and then select Edit > Advanced Search. Click the button to search “All PDF Documents in” and browse to that folder. Then enter your search term(s) and click Search. “Show More Options” can be clicked at the foot of the screen for more complex search strategies. The results of the search will then be listed. Click individual hits to open the relevant page in the PDF.
